Student Equity Need Index

Client: Advancement Project, Inner City Struggle, Community Coalition

Project Name: Student Equity Need Index

Description: In 2014, the three organizations came up with a strategy to ensure that the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) dollars are distributed based on equity, not simply by the number of students in each school. Student Equity Need Index (SENI) was developed as a tool to show geographic representation of student needs throughout LAUSD. It was adopted by the LAUSD Board and a modified version was used to distribute a portion of the funding. Advancement Project revised and updated the formula in 2018.

My Role: As part of Advancement Project, I compiled input from advocates and subject matter experts to come up with an index that best represents the socioeconomic needs of students throughout LAUSD. I also developed visual representations that were used to for the campaign.Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 3.53.28 PMScreen Shot 2018-09-04 at 3.44.54 PM
